Donovan Mitchell’s First Signature Sneaker is Available Now!

adidas Basketball has officially revealed Donovan Mitchell’s first signature shoe called, the D.O.N. Issue #1. Appropriately titled to embody Mitchell’s Determination Over Negativity, the shoe’s name also pulls inspiration from classic comic books displaying issue numbers on the front cover as a testament to Mitchell’s nickname, “Spida”.

To celebrate the reveal of D.O.N. Issue #1 and disrupt the traditional sneaker unveil, adidas and Mitchell worked with his alma mater, Greenwich Country Day School in Connecticut, to select two aspiring sportswriters and provide them with the opportunity to be the first to interview Mitchell about what this moment means for him and his family.

“My message with this shoe is that it’s for kids not only your age, but younger than you guys, older than you guys, just [for those who] believe that they can do anything,” Mitchell said. “You don’t have to be the number one recruit, you don’t even have to be a basketball player. I just want this to send a positive message to make kids feel inspired that they can be what they want to be.”

Update 06.18.19 Your best look yet at Donovan’s adidas Issue 1 has arrived, along with a few extra details. Mitchell’s first signature shoe looks to feature a Bounce midsole, multi-layered textile upper, herringbone traction and a colorway inspired by Spider-Man. The latter is also now a confirmed collaboration, with Marvel’s logo peering through from the midsole. As for a release, you can expect pairs to arrive at select adi hoops houses like Finish Line and directly from adidas.com on July 5th.
