Who knows exactly what's going on behind-the-scenes with Fear of God Athletics, but Jerry Lorenzo seems to have inspired the Adidas Mullaly Low design.
Quietly launched overseas over the last month, the silhouette bears close resemblance to Lorenzo's '86 Low, a style debuted in Dec. 2023 and inspired by the iconic Adidas Rivalry. Although public-facing descriptions for the Mullaly Low don't reference Lorenzo's work, the sneaker's design and color palette wouldn't seem out of place next to models like the Fear of God Athletics Trainer.
Touted as 'Stylish Sneakers That Give Your Outfit A Modern Edge', Adidas' low-top trainer features a sleek synthetic upper and thick midsole. Iconic 3-Stripes branding is indented onto the profiles, creating a simultaneously familiar and refreshing visual. Tread underfoot varies drastically from anything under the Fear of God Athletics banner, falling in line with other budget-friendly options from the German sportswear juggernaut.
'Takedown' designs aren't new to the Three Stripes or sneaker industry-at-large. The truth of the matter is that footwear companies oftentimes see their biggest profit gains arrive from models that are similar to their most hype product.
The brand's former collaborator Ye vocalized his disdain for much of his Yeezy line's DNA being scattered across the Adidas lineup without his blessing. Lorenzo could potentially share the same sentiment towards the Mullaly Low, but it's unlikely he'll share his thoughts with the public.
Enjoy official photos of the Fear of God Athletics '86 Low alternative below. The sneaker is currently available via Adidas.com in Ireland, Mexico, and other countries outside of the U.S. for the equivalent of $80. (By comparison, Lorenzo's offering has an MSRP of $200.)
