Despite only being half a decade old, the adidas NMD has seen the highs and lows of the sneaker world. An explosive start saw it rise almost instantly to the top of popularity — and when we say top, we mean the very top. It, along with the Ultra BOOST, since saw a steep decline in “gram-worthy” shots, but still remained one of adidas’ biggest movers — and that’s something worth celebrating, especially today. Five years ago to the day, the adidas NMD debuted via an exclusive launch event in New York City — and to celebrate its fifth birthday, the BOOST-bolstered sneaker’s next release draws from another modern-day Trefoil classic: Pharrell‘s very first NMD Hu.
Arriving in a familiar “EQT Yellow” colorway, this new NMD boasts a sock-like Primeknit upper, dressed entirely in yellow with hits of black on the heel badge plus the heel and tongue tags. Yellow laces serve up flecked detailing, and the most direct callout to Skateboard P’s inaugural Hu arrives on the toebox via tonal yellow “NMD” embroidery, a cheeky flip of sorts on the OG Hu’s black “Human Race” spell-outs. Down below, a full-foot white BOOST midsole with textured and branded black inserts rounds off the look.
The adidas NMD R1 PK “EQT Yellow” is available now here at adidas UK for £150 GBP. A Stateside release is yet to be confirmed, but it shouldn’t be too far away, so be sure to keep your eyes locked on our official Twitter account for updates.
