UPDATE 08.26.25 South African runner Sbusiso Kubheka broke the 6 hour barrier for the 100 kilometer distance on Tuesday, Aug. 26. The Chasing 100 event took place at the Nardò Ring in Southern Italy. Kubheka finished the event in 5 hours, 59 minutes, and 20 seconds, shaving 6 minutes and 15 seconds off the previous World Record.

Kubheka wore the Adidas Adizero Evo Prime X. Some select athletes debuted the brand's Ultracharge technology, which "[enters] a vessel with pressurized air several days prior to the race...[into the] midsole foam [which] increases responsiveness and feels more alive underfoot."

Photos from the event are found below, underneath our original coverage.

ORIGINAL STORY Since its founding in 1949, Adidas has been synonymous with some of running's biggest moments. Product innovation has assisted dozens of elite athletes reach heights previously unfathomable, while enabling countless casual runners beat their personal bests time and time again. For its latest big bold effort, the Three Stripes will assist five runners as they attempt to cover 100 kilometers (62.14 miles) in less than 6 hours for the first time ever. To this end, the brand has developed the Adizero Evo Prime X alongside new CLIMACOOL+ apparel.

Marketed via the #Chasing100 message, the impending lineup by Adidas Running takes decades of expertise and athlete feedback from recent lightweight racing models like the Adios Pro Evo 2 and Adios Pro 4 to create its most breathable, responsive, and cushioned performance silhouette yet. The Adizero Evo Prime X features over 50 millimeters of LIGHTSTRIKE PRO EVO foam across the midsole and forgoes the ENERGYRODS 2.0 stiffening agent found on other racing models in favor of a curved ring that stabilizes the foot inside such ample midsole cushioning. A paper thin mesh construction across the upper delivers just enough protection for runners to attempt 100km in a straight shot. Profile 3-Stripes branding also offers breathability while continuing the Adizero Running line's current visual language.

Although much attention is being paid to the footwear developed for the Chasing 100 event, the Three Stripes has also unveiled new racing singlets and half-tights for the occasion.

Teaser imagery showcases that the performance apparel features CLIMACOOL+ technology, the brand's top-of-the-line moisture-wicking fabric. What stands out from the racing tank top is the series of raised ovals, a detail the brand defines as "CLIMACOOL 3D embossed material technology, body-mapped to areas with the highest skin contact and sweat production for improved airflow, accelerated sweat evaporation and enhanced cooling."

All five athletes will gear up in the latest innovation from Adidas Running on Tuesday, Aug. 26, in an attempt to beat the world record for the 100km distance, which currently stands at 6 hours, 5 minutes, and 35 seconds.
