The Adidas Samba has undergone numerous transformations since its debut in the 1950s.
Originally designed to provide traction on icy football pitches, by the 1960s, the silhouette was adapted for indoor use, and over the decades, it has seen a myriad of interpretations, including versions with the often debated long tongue.
This distinctive feature, linked closely with the football world, periodically resurfaces in special collaborations, like those with Wales Bonner and Adidas’s in-line releases.
For Summer 2024, Adidas is set to reintroduce the long-tongue Samba across several colorways, celebrating this iconic design element. Today, three new colorways have been revealed, each embracing the classic Samba aesthetic with a modern twist.
The first model features a straightforward yet elegant black leather construction, highlighted with white leather overlays and grey suede, all sitting atop a light gum rubber sole. The other two models opt for a mesh upper, enhancing breathability and comfort, making them perfect for the summer heat. One sports a classic blue and white color blocking, a nod to Adidas's rich heritage, while the other combines grey, navy, and red for a look that draws from the brand's archival designs. A dark gum rubber sole grounds both, and all three feature an oversized debossed Trefoil logo on the folded-over tongue.
Enjoy an official look at the collection below, and expect these to be released alongside several other long-tongued Sambas on Adidas.com from June 1st, 2024.
