adidas Ruggedly Retool the Stan Smith Utility

The Stan Smithis probably the last sneaker you’d think of when it comes to rugged, outdoor wear — but it kind of makes sense that adidas is tooling the tennis shoe tough; after all, it’s the most versatile sneaker ever, you never know where you might end up in a pair of Stans, from a wedding to relaxing by the pool to shifting heavy logs in the woods.

The later is a perfect situation for this updated Stan Smith Utility, which arrives reworked to include a water-resistant upper, heavy-duty mesh tongues, and heel overlays — both of which come equipped with nylon pulls for easy access — and boot-like lacing system. Plus fleece liners will keep tour toes toasty but, very surprisingly, the sole unit appears unchanged.

The adidas Stan Smith Utility is set to debut in three colorways: Khaki, Black, and Pink (Women’s) on December 5th in Aisa, but a US release date is yet to be revealed. It is also tipped to release Utilitarian versions of the Falcon and SC Premiere in and around the same time. Stay tuned for more.
