The adidas Superstar has seen it all in its 50 years on the scene. Once a hardwood high-performer, the sneaker made its transition to a bonafide streetwear staple with ease — and it was helped along by adidas’ bravery to try new things. Like Nike’s Air Force 1, the Superstar is given free creative reign, having been tweaked, teased, transformed and retooled in every way imaginable. Now the humble Shelltoe appears in a duo of deconstructed takes to carry on the silhouette’s 50th-anniversary celebration.
The two pairs arrive in classic black and white bases respectively, both resting atop an aged-look off-white sole unit and shell toe. Both pairs then received thick-cut and loosely-tacked on neutral grey leather overlays, each coming with heavy overhang to exaggerate that deconstructed vibe. Both pairs receive heavy-handed treatment on the tongues and lacestays, with the black pair sporting two separate panels over the vamp and heel, and the white receiving a one-piece quarter cover. Leather liners add a nice luxurious touch, and the pairs are capped off with seemingly randomized contrast stitching strikes.
A release date at this stage is unknown, but pairs of these Deconstructed adidas Superstars are expected to arrive select stores this Spring. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on their release over on our official Twitter account — but until then, enjoy a detailed look at the pairs in question below.
