On-Foot Looks at the adidas Ultra 4D — a Futurecraft 4D / Ultra BOOST Hybrid
Finally, it’s happening. adidas are lending their patent Futurecraft 4D midsoles to the Ultra BOOST for one hellova sneaker hybrid, the adidas Ultra 4D.
From photoshops to sole swaps, the hybridized concept has been at the forefront of the sneaker community’s collective minds since the tech was introduced back in 2017 — and now, three years down the track, the Three Stripes has finally caved to market pressure, with the brand new sneaker set to debut in the Spring/Summer of 2020. First looks at one of the pairs (there’s many on the way) show the use of an Ultra BOOST 1.0 upper paired with the printed midsoles — a perfect match, considering the gaping nature of both the weave and the cushioning
Lace cages appear to remain unchanged from the OG, but its heel clips take on a new shape with sharper edges. Outsole overhang at the heel also looks to have disappeared, and it does arrive as one solid piece of rubber. This white/bone/black colorway is just one of many tipped for release next year — we’ve also sighted a black and blue “OG Ultra BOOST” colorway, as well a pair that goes all-out tonal with the 4D tech’s iconic Ash Green — so expect adidas to go BIG on this silhouette in 2020.
