London, known globally for its frankly shithouse weather, is one of the world’s biggest sneaker cities. Because of this, the crep-capital of the country has been privy to countless footwear features, from Air Jordan 1s and Air Max 1s to the city’s preferred Air Max 95. Despite the love, it’s rare to see their city-specific sneakers account for the weather out. Enter adidas, who have just whipped up a two-piece “Underground” pack in partnership with GORE-TEX inclusive of the ZX 9000 and Ultra BOOST.
Both pairs retain the basic design lines of the upper and midsole, though each comes retooled with a bevy of weather-resistant wear. Textile base layers are lined with GORE-TEX material to keep your feet dry in harsher climate conditions, while underfoot tread is now thicker and enlarged for greater traction. Thin, pull toggle laces arrive for both pairs, with the ZX equipped with extra support via a fidlock closure across the midfoot. Branding is done throughout in black and silver, save the lateral GORE-TEX tags in yellow, with both pairs completed by added heel pulls — again in black and silver.
Grab a look at both pairs in detail here below, and if you’re local to the UK, then head on over to adidas UK to secure the adidas ZX 9000 now, but you’ll have to wait a little while for the UltraBOOST which is slated to drop on December 31st. It’s unclear at this stage if there will be a Stateside or wider global release.
