Michael Carrick's Manchester United couldn't get a win against Sunderland on Matchday 36 of the 2025-26 Premier League season, but the club still won thanks to its custom adidas Chinese New Year Jacket.
Although the outerwear piece inspired by traditional Chinese apparel is old news across Asia, the $150 jacket is still a hot topic in North America due to the design originally being exclusive to China. A stateside launch to kick off May swiftly sold out, prompting the Three Stripes to offer the C.N.Y. Jacket via pre-orders in the adidas app. Pre-orders won't ship until early July, which might've been fine for some, but Man. United's recent custom design has made some interested parties eager to receive their jackets to either rock them as is or look for a way to embroider the English club's Red Devil logo on the right chest in order to recreate those worn by Matheus Cunha and the rest of Carrick's squad pre-match.
It's possible that adidas offers Man. U. editions of the viral Chinese New Year Jacket at some point given the online chatter the custom piece has inspired. Due to how close the end of the Premier League season is, it's likely it won't. Yet, consumer interest in the "Grey Six" Jacket could lead the Three Stripes to prep similar outerwear designs for to football clubs following the 2026 World Cup™ tournament.
You can pre-order the "Grey Six" Chinese New Year Jacket via the adidas app right now. For gear related to Manchester's red-colored football club, visit adidas.com/manchester_united.
