Adidas is tapping into the limitless allure of the Star Wars universe with its latest collaboration, featuring Tokyo-based art curator Shinji Nanzuka. The collaboration coincides with the Star Wars exhibition at Nanzuka’s gallery, which runs from April 26 to May 13.
This exciting partnership combines Star Wars' timeless appeal with Nanzuka’s renowned contemporary artistic vision, offering fans a unique collection that stands at the intersection of pop culture and modern art.
The collection introduces two distinctive footwear models: the Superstar XLG and the NMD_R1; each reinterpreted through the imaginative world of Star Wars.
The Superstar XLG immediately captures attention with its striking pop art-inspired graphics that depict C-3PO. This design bears the droid's complex internals, providing a fresh artistic take on one of the saga’s most iconic characters. The sneaker features a cream-colored shell toe, pristine white leather eyestays, and a sleek black leather heel tab, all grounded by a robust cream rubber midsole—perfect for those who appreciate a touch of classic with their cosmic.
Conversely, the NMD_R1 presents a more understated yet equally compelling look. It sports an all-black colorway punctuated by a fiery red TPU overlay at the toe, suggesting a subtle nod to the dark side of the Star Wars galaxy. This design could very well be a tribute to the enigmatic aura of the Galactic Empire or the First Order, adding a layer of intrigue for fans and collectors.
The collection will also be joined by a series of kidswear and a unique Nanzuka x Star Wars Darth Vader long-sleeve tee.
The Star Wars x Nanzuka x adidas collection is set to launch globally on Adidas.com on May 4, 2024, to celebrate Star Wars Day — “May the Fourth Be With You.”
