Today, much of the running world's innovation is centralized around road running, but adidas keeps pushing performance boundaries across different surfaces and terrains. For its latest effort, the Three Stripes has unveiled the Agravic Speed Ultra Evo—an industry-forward trail racing silhouette built with insight from the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3, the model in which the current sub-2 hour marathon world record was set.
Part of the adidas Terrex category, the latest addition to the Agravic line takes the best of the brand's long distance racing heritage and adapts it to the rugged conditions seen in trail racing.
Given that the Speed Ultra Evo is informed by the Evo 3, the brand's lightest racer ever, it's no surprise that the new model weighs less than the average trail racer at around 8.8 ounces (250 grams).

The design team at adidas achieved a highly-capable, lightweight package on the Agravic Speed Ultra Evo by way of a number of innovative elements, including:
- A feather-light TRAILOCK upper built for comfort across long distances & protection in rough terrain
- All-new Dual ENERGYRIM, a modified take on the carbon-integrated system that debuted on the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3
- Dual-layer LIGHTSTRIKE PRO foam tuned to deliver maximum energy return over long trails
- Partial Continental™ rubber coverage across the aggresive outsole
Testing done by the brand in its lab and outdoors found that the adidas Terrex Agravic Speed Ultra Evo delivers over 10% greater energy return and 1% more running economy than the Agravic Speed Ultra 2. The newer model also features a taller inner collar that offers enhanced lockdown and protection when compared to predecessors.
The Agravic Speed Ultra Evo will debut at UTMB (Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc), which takes place between Aug. 24–30, with the help of some of adidas' top athletes. A limited amount of pairs will be available for purchase on the ground in Chamonix beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 25; pairs will release in the U.S. for $500 in early December via adidas.com and Running Warehouse.
