ASICS' popular GEL-NYC launched with the help of Angelo Baque's AWAKE NY, but the silhouette has taken over sneaker rotations everywhere via a healthy roster of inline styles. A pair covered in 'Midnight Navy' goodness just launched at a number of retailers.
Inspired by performance running models like the GEL-Nimbus 3 and GEL-Cumulus 16, the ASICS GEL-NYC is unquestionably a lifestyle shoe. Its tooling and uppers haven't been fine-tuned for clocking mileage, although they look the part. Instead, the pair's high-quality, technical elements deliver comfort and style for casual wear. Breathable mesh panels set the stage for synthetic leather and suede overlays across the upper. A touch of silver appears throughout the pair, but the Y2K-friendly accent is engulfed by shades of the titular dark blue.
Underfoot, the tried-and-proven tooling keeps things simple, with part of the midsole indulging in a faux-aged finish.
