Back in late 2018, in preparation for the dreaded monsoon season, ASICS linked up with the unique design tastes of Singaporean artist and Limited Edt head Mark Ong — AKA SGBT — for an inspired and functional take on the ASICS GEL Lyte III. Two years on, the two look to rekindle their wet-weather wears upon a brand new, retooled release. The Limited Edt x SGBT x ASICS GEL Lyte III “Monsoon Patrol” for 2020 arrives in much the same construction as their fatigued 2018 release, though it arrives with a much fairer complexion of bones, sails and blacks. Water-resistant, almost jacket-like uppers, an abundance of suede overlays, and the fairly obvious removable shroud overlay all call back to their original release, and you’ll also find the same camo-like print at the mid panel, and technical text at the lateral heel. New for 2020 is an additional, Abloh-like external lacing system — complete with toggles — and further text embellishing the aforementioned Shroud.
Grab a detailed look at the sophomore Limited Edt x SGBT x ASICS GEL Lyte III “Monsoon Patrol” further below, and look for these to hit select ASICS stores and ASICS.com before the year’s end.
In other trainer news, the University of Miami had delivered an incredible take on the adidas ZX 5000 for the brand’s A-ZX collection.
