Concept Lab // Air Jordan 6 “30th Anniversary”
Each and every year, Jordan Brand looks to honor their respective milestone anniversaries with some special and considered releases. OG retros of the respective sneaker is a given, like next year’s Air Jordan 6 “Carmine” for its 30th birthday, but there’s often a special-edition release, too. Last weekend’s 25th Anniversary “Jubilee” Air Jordan 11 honored the silhouette in a traditional sense, issuing the pair with a sample-inspired design and decking it our with silver accents — the traditional material gift for a 25th anniversary. It’s with this theme in mind that we’ve taken to creating our very own 30th Anniversary Air Jordan 6 — a special-edition sneaker we’d love to in celebration of Mike’s sixth signature sneaker.
Of course, we don’t quite know exactly what — if any — special commemorative release will arrive for the AJ6 in 2021, but if we had our way, it would look a little something like this, incorporating both traditional and modern 25th-anniversary gifts of Pearl and Diamond. We’ve imagined a mimicked pearl finish at the outsole pods, lace locks, and rear clips, as well as a subtle pearl-like glistening sprayed across the University Blue upper. The latter is wrapped in traditional white leather overlays, while tongues, heel pulls, and sole units arrive in a Tarheels-friendly navy blue. Embroidered branding at the tongue shroud and heel arrive in uni blue, and the pair is completed by an oversized faux-diamond Jumpman hangtag.
