One person has been shot and killed at Shoe Palace in the Fairfax District, as per ABC7 Los Angeles

Located on Melrose and North Genesee Avenues, the shooting happened at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. Unconfirmed reports have suggested that the victim was an employee of the footwear chain and was reportedly shot trying to break up an altercation on the premises. It’s not clear at this stage what the dispute was regarding, but it has been suggested that it may have been regarding a sneaker raffle.

The suspect fled the scene in a silver Toyota Camry and is believed to be a man in his 20s wearing dark clothing. Anyone with information on the case is urged to call 877-LAPD-247.

This is not the first time that violence has erupted in the sneaker world, with the troubles first brought to light by Sports Illustrated’s 1990 “Your Sneakers or Your Life” cover story. There have since been countless incidents since — some fatal, most unavoidable. This is a timely reminder that life is bigger than sneakers, and there’s no sneaker in the world worth more than your life.
