First Looks // Air Jordan 6 "Doernbecher" (2024)
For 20 years, the Doernbecher Freestyle program has provided a unique platform for OHSU Children’s Hospital patients, offering them a once-in-a-lifetime experience to design their own Nike footwear. Over the past two decades, the initiative has not only sparked hope and creativity but also significantly impacted the lives of the children involved. The program has become a symbol of generosity and compassion, fostering a community of support for young patients while giving sneaker enthusiasts and collectors the chance to own unique designs.
This year’s designers—Connor, Ja’Kai, Jillian, Quin, Sophia, and Tima—will share their incredible journeys and reveal their unique Nike creations, including one of the most anticipated sneakers of the year: the 2024 Air Jordan 6 "Doernbecher." Leaked images of the shoe have surfaced, showcasing some of its distinct features, though the designer has not yet been identified.
The Air Jordan 6 "Doernbecher" features heart-shaped perforations, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the design. Velcro-patched collars allow for customization, while metallic gold accents provide an eye-catching finish. The sneaker is dressed in a color palette of sail, blush, and aqua, each sho alternating uppers and accents, creating a soft and elegant look that's equally bold. Each pair features "Give Life" embroidery across the toe box in thick purple embroidery, glittery Jumpman-branded tongues, and multiple set of laces.
As the 20th anniversary of the Doernbecher Freestyle program draws near, more details on the entire collection are expected to emerge. The official unveiling is set for October 18, when the full range of designs — including the Air Jordan 6 — will be revealed.
