One of the most limited air Jordan 1 releases of all time is set to make a return soon, with the first official sighting of the 2022 Air Jordan 1 XQ.

Made exclusively for China as part of the ‘Happy Occasion’ pack in 2007, the Air Jordan 1 XQ Mid was limited to less than 240 pairs. Its make is riddled with multiple debossed and stitched patterns, features unique color blocking, and is rife with contrast stitching throughout. Each pair received a serial number inside the shoe box, which marked this as one of the first numbered Air Jordan releases in history. Its status in the sneaker community is that of a bonafide grail, and the aftermarket prices (upwards of $13k) reflect that. And with the brand now set to celebrate 25 years in the Chinese market, what better way to honor the partnership than with a re-release of the ultra-rare Air?

First looks at the 2022 Air Jordan 1 XQ provided by @fxxkvlogvishow a retro fairly close to the original release, though there are some notable changes, including the removal of the piping around the collar and forefoot overlay, significantly less stitchwork around the eyestay overlays, and eyelets, a much brighter yellow shade on the Swoosh and liners, with the latter also more prevalent to the eye than the previous release. There’s also an adjustment applied to the tongue branding, with the 2022 release sporting a staple woven tag in red and gold, as opposed to the original’s tongue-stitched gold and black detail, as well as a special 25th-anniversary insole.

While an official release date for the 2022 Air Jordan 1 XQ has yet to be revealed, you can definitely expect to see these land in 2022. Whether it will be another China-exclusive also remains a mystery.
