Now this is what you call Rare Air.
You may recall this rare PE that surfaced earlier this week during Jordan Brand’s #MJday celebrations. Well, now it’s up for auction. And many of you might not be aware that these were actually worn on court by Mike during the 1986 playoffs.
After injuring himself in the Air Jordan 2 during the 1985-86 season, MJ only appeared for 18 regular season games. Way back on March 21, 1986, Mike returned to the team for game 2 of the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs against the Celtics. He returned rocking these modified joints to give him a touch more added support to that injury. I guess it worked – he put up 63 points, although the modified Chicago Jordan 1;s were never seen on court again.
I mean, If I dropped 63 points in a game I wouldn’t be changing anything. Heck I wouldn’t even get changed out of my uniform for a week if it worked that well.
If you are after this rare piece of Jordan history, its up for auction by Heritage Auctions right now, with opening bid starting at $5,000. It will be live for the next 30 days only. These are only 1 of 2 pairs of the modified Air Jordan 1’s still in existence, so don’t expect these to go cheap.
