It’s been a little over a year since Jordan Brand unveiled the Air Jordan 11 Adapt, a sneaker that celebrated both the silhouette’s 25th anniversary and its designer’s extraordinary feat in footwear design: self-lacing shoes. Tinker Hatfield’s vision was catapulted by the mythical Nike Mag from Back To The Future — another sneaker in which Tinker devised — came to fruition with the EARL back in 2016, and has since graced basketball shoes, huaraches, and even a special-edition Air Mag for Back to the Future star Michael J. Fox. Although most of those self-lacing designs have come to a halt, it appears that the self-lacing Jordan will continue on with a brand new Air Jordan 11 Adapt “University Blue” / “Legend Blue” appearing ahead of the Holiday 2021 season.

Looking back to the Eleven’s original “Columbia” colorway that MJ wore during the 1996 All-Star Game, the pair brings a handful of familiar feels along with all-new aesthetical changes that tie the past to the present. Replacing the white nubuck upper is a Uni Blue-gridded, ripstop-like white sheath, while the signature patent leather guard is swapped out for soft grey suede. Eyelets, lockdown straps, and pulls follow the grey theme, before bright blue stitching and tongue/heel branding brighten up the release in quick flashes. Underfoot, you’ll find the modified Adapt sole unit sitting in white and icy blue, complete with black traction pads, and the pair is capped off with Adapt-branded insoles and a special-edition box.

Perhaps an indication of an annual edition, the follow-up Air Jordan 11 Adapt “Legend Blue” is also expected to see a Holiday release, though a confirmed date for the pair has not yet been set.
