During the production of any sneaker — new or retrospective —footwear brands go through an intensive round of sampling to iron out the fine details; sometimes even to compare blocking options and materials. Like the recently-revealed “Black Toe” Nike SB Dunk that was part of the 2020 “Chicago” release, this Air Jordan 14 “Alternate Thunder” look-see was integral to 2014’s “Thunder” retail release. Now, almost a decade on from its original production, a very first look at the pair has appeared.
Drawing inspiration from some of the Air Jordan 14 colorways that Pacer legend Reggie Miller wore in games, the retail and sample release differ vastly, with the former opting for a more simplified blocking and suede material construct. Here, we see a mix of buttery leather and suede, along with black and white midsoles and pops of piercing yellow at the midfoot shank, as well as the pair’s branding throughout.
Grab a look for yourself here below, and if you’re a big fan of samples, then make sure you peep this Air Jordan 9 JBC sample from 2020.
