The Air Jordan 4 RM Appears with Details Inspired By Michael Jordan's Interest in Motorsports
Despite its origins in and focus on performance basketball, Jordan Brand has explored different avenues throughout its 40-year history. Many of the other sports it's participated in have had a personal connection to His Airness, making forays into golf and baseball, for example, organic. One such realm that Michael Jordan's eponymous imprint has also explored has been the world of motorsports, which has seemingly inspired the newest Air Jordan 4 RM.
As Nike, Inc. tells it, a young Mike had been interested in motorsports even before he got to the NBA. Once a Chicago Bull, however, he had to pause riding fast as doing so was too much of a liability. Fast-forward to 2004, Jordan contacted Pete Mauhar, an experienced acing team manager, to assemble a team he would sponsor.
Throughout the years, the Air Jordan line has launched a number of footwear items originally dedicated to Jordan Brand motorsport athletes. Pairs like the Air Jordan 4 'Motorsport' from 2017 were born in 2006, but ultimately released to the public in wide-enough quantity to deliver a piece of history to those interested.

The hybrid Jordan 6 Rings has also emerged in a makeover inspired by the Jumpman team's efforts in racing. The 2010 edition introduced special 23 branding that's also appeared on the newest Jordan 4 RM's left tongue. A greyscale color scheme covers the Nigel Sylvester-approved silhouette, seemingly drawing inspiration from the customized bikes and cars used across the 23XI Racing team's history. Red-colored contrast stitching and perforated leather panels breathe new life into the Restomod offering, as does Jordan-branded plastic components across the profiles.
Hits of a 'Lightning' Air Jordan 4 retro-like yellow animate the tongue's underside and zones across the herringbone-patterned outsole.
