Jordan Brand has officially unveiled the Air Jordan 40, marking a major milestone for the most iconic franchise in basketball footwear. Built to celebrate four decades since Michael Jordan first laced up in a pair of Air Jordans, the AJ40 balances innovation and legacy in a silhouette made for the modern game.

“This is an incredible moment for our brand as we define the next era of greatness alongside the next generation of hoopers,” said Jordan Brand President Sarah Mensah. “The Air Jordan 40 represents the future.”

At its core, the AJ40 is a purpose-built performance basketball shoe, combining Nike’s leading technologies for the first time: full-length ZoomX foam and full Zoom Strobel. The result is the most responsive and energy-efficient Jordan yet—boasting 85% energy return underfoot and dynamic pop for quick cuts. A 360-degree webbing system adds both medial and lateral containment, while a newly engineered traction pattern with 40-degree angles ensures sharp directional changes.

Design-wise, the AJ40 threads together history and innovation. Signature details reference key models from the Jordan lineage: a tongue borrowed from the Air Jordan 5, reflective cues from the AJ13, AJ14-inspired stitch lines, and AJ3-style heel clips. There’s also subtle nods to the AJ12, AJ15, and AJ18—each worked seamlessly into a futuristic profile with asymmetrical collar heights and medial venting for breathability.

The Air Jordan 40 will debut in “The Classic” colorway on July 12 for $200, followed by “Blue Suede” on August 20 and “Dusty Rose” on September 20, all via Jordan.com and select retailers.
