A "Sashiko" Air Jordan 6 Joins 35th Anniversary Roster
Fresh off official images of a Xuanwu-inspired retro exclusive to China and the greater region, a "Sashiko" Air Jordan 6 has surfaced as part of the sneaker's 35th anniversary celebration.
By comparison, the latter pair opts for a light-colored makeover, abandoning the dark shades of brown that nod to Chinese mythology. The "Sashiko" look sees a cream-colored finish across a number of different, non-standard materials. Hits of blue animate details along the midsole, as well as elements on the tongue and spine; the latter components directly reference sashiko, which translates from Japanese to "little stabs." This is a traditional form of functional embroidery utilizing white cotton thread stitched into geometric patterns atop indigo-dyed fabric, resulting in an aesthetic presentation that doesn't sacrifice performance.
The impending Air Jordan is likely exclusive to Japan, given its connection to the country's traditional craftsmanship.
Stay tuned for firm Nike.com/Jordan release details. The pair is expected to land at select retailers by May.
