The biggest surprise reissue of 2020 was undoubtedly the return of 1998’s Air Jodan OGwomen’s silhouette. Out of nowhere, celebrating no special anniversary or occasion, the brand’s first-ever women’s sneaker was welcomed with warmth from the sneaker world when its OG White/Black colorway dropped early last year. The remainder of the COVD-effected year saw releases few and far between, but of late, we’ve seen the silhouette back on a resurgent path. Just a few days following the unveiling of the Olympic-destined “USA” release comes something a little more low-key in this Air Jordan Womens OG “Neutral Grey”

Though it rocks a pure monochrome palette, the pair makes up for what it lacks in color through intriguing use of texture, shade, and blocking. Utilizing two styles of suede, textile weaves, and bold black piping across its upper, the pair manages to create distinct sections, despite each panel differing only slightly in shade. While the latter’s black lines play a big part in this, it’s the difference in texture that makes such a subtle statement. Uppers in a fine, light grey suede are juxtaposed against an ultra-shaggy finish to the overlays in few shades darker. The dividing blacks houses a sleek, white-grey nylon for contrast — a finish that is also applied to the pair’s collar. Underfoot you’ll find a two-tone grey sole unit popped with black branding and herringbone tread, and the pair is capped of with tongue and heel embroidery in black.
