Angelo Baque and his Awake NY team are set to team up with Jordan Brand once more come Fall 2025, this time, reimagining two pairs of the iconic Air Jordan 5.
First reported by Sneaker News, the impending collaboration will serve as a follow up to the New York City-based imprint's Jordan Air Ship capsule from the second-half of 2024. Unlike its first go-around with His Airness' eponymous label, Awake NY's Jordan Brand sequel abandons the Chicago Bulls-appropriate color schemes in favor of color palettes and presentations that are a lot more adventurous.
The first pair to surface appeared in a predominantly-"Arctic Pink" finish. Hits of "University Red/Metallic Silver/Black/White" also joined the mix, but all tones played supporting roles to the rosy makeover. While seemingly-random, the choice of "Arctic Pink" for the fifth Air Jordan silhouette aligns with the history of Tinker Hatfield's reference for the original design: World War II fighter planes. During the war, some Supermarine Spitfire reconnaissance aircrafts were painted pink as a camouflage tactic during dawn and dusk.

The backstory behind the accompanying "Black/Racer Blue" style hasn't been disclosed by Baque or others involved with the project, but it likely makes reference to the 2000s, as with so much of Awake NY's work.
A similar retro launched in 2022, during the Jordan 5's 32nd anniversary. The pair delivered a different spin on the sneaker's original "Black Metallic" look, while also sharing DNA with the "Stealth" retro from 2006. The Bronx's @bobothe_kid helped the brand unveil the second pair via a campaign shot by @vondonunitednyc in the Fordham area of the borough.
Both pairs of the Awake NY x Air Jordan 5 feature co-branded elements throughout the shoe. The reflective tongue sees the iconic Jumpman accompanied by the independent label's wordmark; the same logo lock-up is visible through the semi-translucent outsole underfoot. Two details that are particularly important to the collaboration are the replacement of 23 with NY on the lateral heel, as well as the decorative A built into the profiles mesh windows. Both elements would've required Nike, Inc. to tweak their manufacturing process, which suggests full-backing on Baque and team's work.
Enjoy detailed photos and original speculative mockups for the pairs below. The "Arctic Pink" Jordan 5 by Awake NY is expected to launch via Nike.com/Jordan come Saturday, Aug. 16. X user @brandon1an has also shared that the collaborative "Black/Racer Blue" style will launch two weeks later, on Aug. 30, instead of September as initially anticipated.
