2006 was a hellova year for the Air Jordan 5 — well, it could have been. I mean sure, we had some serious heat, with releases like the “Stealth”, “Burgundy”, “Army Olive” and the OG retro of the black-tongued “Fire Red” leading the charge. Don’t get me wrong, all of those slap, and are of a caliber that we just don’t see these days — but have you seen the samples from 2006 that never made the cut? Sheesh.

If you haven’t we put together an article around this time last year that covers a lot of them which you can peep here — but there was always one pair from that year that I wanted more than any other, this dusty-ass Grey/Burgundy banger:

Just look at that quality! My lord. Times have changed — but one thing has not: my desire to get these at retail. Now, If it ever happens, I’m not expecting that level of quality, so I’ve whipped up a Photoshop rendition of a current-day cut, and you know what? It’s not half bad.
