6 Finals, 6 Wins, 6 Rings.
We’re only a year and a half of the 30th anniversary of the Air Jordan 6. Sure, we’ve still got a lot of celebrating left for the Air Jordan 4 and 5’s big 3-0, but Six has always been a special number for Michael. We all know he won 6 rings from 6 finals appearances. He also won his first ring in the Air Jordan 6, and his number 23: 2 x 3= 6.
Iluminatti confirmed.
In heavy anticipation of 2021’s 30th anniversary of the Air Jordan 6 (also 30 years since MJ won his first Championship) we’ve contrived an Air Jordan 6 “Six Rings” Concept Collection, consisting of six Air Jordan 6s, across five different opponents (Lakers, Portland, Suns, Sonics and Jazz) plus one very special edition pair that will blow your mind.
Not one to start in order, we’re going to kick the series off with Mike’s third NBA Finals opponents, the Pheonix Suns, whom Mike and the Bulls defeated in 6 games. The Suns went into the postseason with a season-leading 62 wins, earning the #1 seed in not only the West but in the entire league. However, a shaky playoff performance brought them back to earth, beating the Lakers in 5, the Spurs in 6, and scraping past the Sonics in 7 in the Western Conference Finals.
The Bulls, on the other hand, swept their way to the Eastern Conference Finals. The series against the Knicks, however, went awry, losing the first two games, and MJ shooting poorly over the first three with FG%s of .371, .391 and an unbelievably low .167 respectively. They got past the #1 seed Knicks in six, but both the Bulls and Suns shaky performances made for quite an interesting series ahead.
We all know what happened next. Phoenix went missing — or was it Mike’s giant 41 ppg average enough to block out the Suns-shine? It completed the first of Mike’s three-peats, and would be the last ring we thought we’d ever see Michael win, as the next season saw him swap from the hardwood for the diamond.
Stay tuned for the next installment of our Air Jordan 6 “Six Rings” Concept Collection, where we take a trip back to 1996.
