In recent times, Jordan Brand has been primarily mining its vast and storied past for inspiration when creating new releases. The brand's signature line often demonstrates this approach, with models such as the Air Jordan 36 and Air Jordan 34 paying tribute to the Air Jordan 6 and Air Jordan 4 respectively in their key design cues. This trend extends to the use of classic colorways being repurposed for different silhouettes, as seen in the upcoming Air Jordan 7 “White Infrared,” which adopts the celebrated Air Jordan 6 colorway.

Even though many of these designs embody the distinctive Jordan Brand DNA, hybrid shoes that merge untouched design components from several signature models often face a mixed reception, ranging from criticism to mockery. However, designs like the Dub Zero and Spiz’ike consistently top the brand's sales charts. Now, the Jordan MVP 678 joins the ranks of these authentic Jordan hybrids.

Named in honor of Michael Jordan's first three NBA championship victories, during which he was also named Finals MVP, the Jordan MVP 678 pays homage to the three signature sneakers he wore during those triumphant years. The shoe's upper showcases design elements borrowed from the Air Jordan 6, Air Jordan 7, and Air Jordan 8. The tongue is a clear nod to the AJ7, the sole unit is inspired by the AJ6, and the multi-colored heel overlay and fixture echo the AJ8, making for a seamless blend of all three legendary designs.

While the silhouette draws heavily from MJ's professional exploits, the upcoming colorway is a nostalgic nod to his college days at Chapel Hill. Dubbed the "Black UNC", this version echoes the Tar Heels colorways often featured in modern Jordan Brand releases.

You will find pairs of the Jordan MVP 678 "Black UNC" landing at select Jumpman stockists and Nike.com on July 21, 2023, retailing for $165
