Jordan Brand has been, is, and will forever be a basketball company. Although "His Airness" has long retired professionally from the sport, his eponymous label continues to pursue pinnacle expressions of gear for the game. Its latest effort has resulted in the Jordan Triangle, a $140 performance hoops shoe that ushers in a new era for Team Jumpman.

Development for the new basketball model was spearheaded by Leo Chang, Senior Creative Director, Basketball and Sport, and Donald Kelsey, Senior Director, Basketball and Promo Footwear at Jordan Brand. Both figures have repeatedly demonstrated a keen understanding of both performance innovation and NIKE, Inc. heritage, which were crucial to the creation of Triangle.

According to Chang and Kelsey, the $140 silhouette was a conscious effort to meet modern hoopers where they are today. The model's name draws inspiration from the famous "Triangle Offense" taught by Phil Jackson—a system that led Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls to six NBA titles. But the inspiration goes beyond nomenclature.

"This is gonna be our first shoe that actually kicks off...a new chapter of Jordan basketball footwear," shared Kelsey with House of Heat° in a private media briefing. "We've been very signature [shoe]-based...so we wanted to make sure that we actually have a balanced offering moving forward."

The development of the Jordan Triangle included insight from the likes of Duke University's Cameron Boozer. Numerous athletes wanted a shoe that kept their legs feeling fresh from tip-off to final buzzer, which led Chang, Kelsey, and team to focus on movement, propulsion, and energy efficiency with their new footwear proposal.

"The 'Triangle Offense' represents...motion, constant movement, from start to finish," said Kelsey when asked about the design's name. He shared that this idea of movement informed the cushioning setup in the Jordan Triangle, which delivers two top performance technologies from the NIKE, Inc. portfolio: ZoomX foam and Air Zoom.

Both performance elements are found in some of the company's marquee products for running, tennis, football, and basketball, making their appearance on the $140 Triangle a groundbreaking move.

The midsole consists of Cushlon 3.0 foam, which serves as a carrier for the technology that's been jam-packed into the accessible silhouette. A slab of ZoomX foam is placed at the forefoot to offer bouncy responsiveness when athletes engage with the front of their feet. An Air Zoom bag appears at the heel to provide protection when landing after a dunk or layup. This setup has been fine-tuned with insight from today's athletes, who are more position-less than ever. Each element contributes to Jordan Brand's goal of helping hoopers reach the final minutes of a basketball game feeling like they still have a pep in their step.

Additionally, a lateral shank helps with the stability needed during hard cuts and quick changes of direction. The Hart Rubber 2.0 traction provides reliable grip across a variety of court surfaces, ensuring players feel confident on-court and are enabled to react instinctively during any fast-paced game.

The Triangle's low-cut profile helps deliver freedom of movement without sacrificing support. Its overall build makes it a true all-position option for modern hoopers.

Looks-wise, Jordan Triangle also marks a new chapter for MJ's brand.

"When we talk to athletes of this era...they all want something that is super expressive," shared Kelsey. He continued by sharing that his team wanted to explore color schemes that went beyond the Chicago Bulls heritage that's been historically associated with Jordan Brand.

"I mean, we got a whole team that does retros and heritage stuff...[it] doesn't really serve us well to dwell on that," said Chang. "I think [it's] really important to define this era of Jordan Basketball [with] new stories, have new expressions, you know? So, it's not so much looking at the past...we wanna move forward."

To this end, the Jordan Triangle's design team has developed three distinct colorways for the basketball shoe's debut: "Baltic Blue," "Hyper Punch," and "Volt/Infrared." City-inspired pairs—including Quai 54, Next Stop Dongdan, and NY vs NY—will also bring vibrant, experimental finishes to the next-gen hoops model.
