Jordan Brand seemingly pulled out all the stops in 2025 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Air Jordan 1, but it seems that the eponymous imprint isn't done reimagining the iconic silhouette for special occasions. Come Spring 2027, Michael Jordan's first signature sneaker is expected to release in three makeovers courtesy of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
The report arrives by way of Sneaker News and anticipates the 10th anniversary of the partnership between NIKE, Inc. and MoMA—a relationship that officially began in 2017 when the original Air Force 1 High was added to the Items: Is Fashion Modern? exhibit.
The collaboration would also coincide with the 30th anniversary of Jordan Brand becoming an independent subsidiary.
Neither party involved has corroborated the news, but the move is plausible due to the fact that the New York City-based institution has previously played a role in launching limited-edition product from the world's biggest sportswear brand. A MoMA-backed collaboration of the Air Jordan 1 would celebrate the partnership while further cementing MJ's design from 1995 as a cultural artifact.
No photos of the rumored MoMA Jordans have surfaced as of writing, but the project is expected to feature three different black-base pairs contrasted with either orange, purple, or grey. Some users on social media have designed speculative mock-ups while the world waits for product shots of the linkup.
Stay tuned for details of a limited Nike.com/Jordan launch. A special release should also take place at The Museum of Modern Art sometime between March and May 2027.
