Since 1985, skaters have been in love with the Air Jordan 1. It’s flat design, flexibility, and high-cut struck an instant chord with skateboarders when the sneaker debuted — and not much has changed since then. If anything, the love for the silhouette has grown. And while the SB Dunk gets most of the fanfare these days — mainly due to price points and availability — skates across the globe still lace up their Air Jordan 1s on occasion.

To celebrate this lifetime love, Jordan Brand is teaming up with Nike SB to bring you a true skate collaboration, not too dissimilar to Lance Mountain’s wear-away collab from 2014. The duo both arrive with wear-away uppers, one adorning a Lakers-esque color palate of Deep Purple, regal Gold and classic Sail, revealing a hidden “Chicgao” colorway — serving as an ode to the 1991 NBA Finals and LA skate culture. The other pair is said to be inspired by New York and Paris, two important cities in the timeline of both Jordan Brand and skateboarding.

The Jordan 1 is no stranger to skate collaborations, with the aforementioned Lance Mountain makeups and a black/iridescent green Jordan 1 SB — both which released in 2014 (and both featuring on our list; The 10 Best Air Jordan 1s of All-Time) — this new pair is set to rekindle the flame, not that it ever extinguished. It’s likely going to serve as a pep up for the recently “resurgent” (it never really went away) SB line.

Both versions feature Nike SB tongue labels and Zoom Air insoles consistent with modern day SB footwear. According to Jordan Brand, both colorways of these cross-category mash-ups will release separately on May 25th, 2019 for an MSRP of $175 a pop. Until then, grab a detailed look at the duo below!
