The combination of speed, endurance, and off-road adventures intrigues Karhu to this day. In the mid-1980s, Finnish sneaker brand Karhu sponsored the Ford Escort driven by famous rally car world champ Carlos Sainz Sr., who was the first non-Nordic driver to win their local 1000 Lakes Rally in Finland. Nicknamed El Matador, Sainz held the World Rally Championship record for most career starts, until it was broken by Finnish driver Jari-Matti Latvala. The racecar that was driven by Sainz at the famous Calafat Circuit inspires this Rally Pack concept, which is spread across two renditions of the Aria 95, and one of the Synchron Classic.
The three respective colorways are linked to the car’s paint, decals and suits of rally drivers. Each shoe is a mix of soft dyed panels in pigskin suede and water repellent nylon mesh. The Aria 95s lycra elastic mono sock provides support and slip-on like comfort, while the asymmetrical lacing of Synchron Classic adds a unique finish to a classically designed sneaker.
All three pairs are set to touch down on August 18th at 43einhalb for $130 a pop — but forewarning, both the Aria and Synchron tend to run a little small, so go that half-size up. While you wait out the release, take a look at all three pairs below in detail!
