Since the collaboration between the Chinese sports brand Li Ning and Dwyane Wade started in 2012, Way of Wade has crafted basketball gear for 10 years. The 9th iteration of Way of Wade surprised me with an entirely different aesthetic that’s heavily reliant futurism.
Its next release, the Way of Wade 9 Infinity “Test R2”, is inspired by industrial protective clothing, and infuses a strong industrial concept into sneaker design. The upper adopts a large area of transparent material, which reveals the structure of the inner-bootie underneath. Industrial test labels on the upper keep the style sharp. Asymmetrical designs on numbers of zipper heads, insole patterns, test labels, and other details celebrate the various uncertain states of the testing process.
Apart from its eye-catching industrial exterior, the Way of Wade 9 Infinity “Test R2” is court-ready with its functional features. The sneaker features Li Ning JIANG structural cushioning technology and BOOM technology in the midsole for a smooth and responsive feel. A zipper shroud covers the BOA fit system on the shoe upper instead of conventional lacing allows the wearers to dial in their desired fit. The TPU pieces at the sides and extended outsole rubber offer extra support and structure to the sneakers. Other details include a full-length carbon fiber plate in the midsole for torsional resistance, a sock-like ankle collar for added fit and comfort.
Those looking to level up their game will be able to pick up the Way of Wade 9 Infinity “Test R2” when it hits wayofwade.com on December 11 for $255. The women’s Way of Wade 9 Infinity “Test R2” will also be available for $200 on the day.
