Italy’s One Block Down has a penchant for the reserved and refined, but for their latest effort on the Mizuno Wave Rider 10 "Flame Wave" collection, they've thrown the book out the window.

Straying from their typically minimalist aesthetic, One Block Down took a daring approach, igniting it with design elements that are both innovative and visually striking. The conventional components we've grown accustomed to, such as Mizuno's signature RunBird logo and the stabilizing exterior heel piece, find their place among groundbreaking features. The most eye-catching among these is the reimagined upper, constructed with a breathable, porous mesh, and the aggressive re-design of the forefoot to resemble roaring flames.

The collaboration, aptly named “Flame Wave,” introduced three compelling colorways - Onyx, Amazon, and Koi. Each version showcases a glossy, almost liquid finish on the overlays, complemented by matching underlays and branded accents. The One Block Down logo makes its mark on the sidewalls and tongue, affirming the collaboration’s unique identity.

Released to immediate acclaim and a rapidly sold-out status, the “Flame Wave” collection signifies more than just a bold design choice; it's a celebration of subcultural resilience and evolution. Both One Block Down and Mizuno share a profound respect for athletic and design heritage. Still, with this collaboration, they've also demonstrated a willingness to disrupt norms and set new trends.

Accompanying the release is a capsule clothing collection reflecting the same fiery ethos. The range includes a meticulously crafted black tracksuit and a red running tank, both made in Italy and boasting reflective flame details, as well as a technical Breath Thermo Balaclava. These pieces, much like the sneakers, are adorned with co-branding and the distinctive "Flame Wave" motif, further cementing the collaboration's theme.

Perhaps what makes this partnership between One Block Down and Mizuno truly special is the shared journey across continents. From the streets of Italy and the vibrant culture of Brazil to the innovative spirit of Japan, these three countries form the cornerstone of this collaboration. The campaign, spanning these diverse landscapes, not only highlights the global influence of both entities but also pays homage to their legacies and contributions to broader cultural movements.

After selling out this morning via OBD's official channels, the collection is poised for a wider, global release on November 10th.
