These Colourful Staud x New Balance 997 Sneakers are Inspired by Princess Diana

After its successful collaborations with New York designer Aimé Leon Dore, heritage-heavy Casablanca, and world-renowned retailers size? and Bodega, New Balance is adding another fashion favorite to its collaborative roster: LA-based brand Staud.

Designer Sarah Staudinger, who is a 2019 CFDA Fashion Award nominee, has buddied-up with the Boston-based brand for a line of activewear and a pair of 997 sneakers that both find inspiration from formidable ladies of the 1980s. Staud has given the retro sneakers a colorful makeover that arrives in a construction true to the brand’s DNA. Classic pigskin arrives in 80-inspired hues of gold, rust, blue pink, and green, of which Sarah says are inspired by vintage gym wear seen on Princess Diana, as well as a 1978 appearance by Susan Sarandon in Cannes. Completing the design are perforated toe boxes, along with white, grey, and black accents throughout that harken back to vintage gym footwear of the era.

The unisex pairs have been up for pre-order on Staud’s official website for a minute, but New Balance will also be stocking the drop this August — although no specific date has been attached. The made in USA release will retail for $230.
