2001 Japan-Exclusive Nike Air Presto “Rainbow” Releases March 20th

Coming fresh off a 20th-anniversary celebration, Tobie Hatfields masterful Nike Air Presto has picked up a bit of steam amongst sneakerheads, with 2020 seeing select samples and rare re-releases hit shelves. Whilst it’s not a mega mover for Nike by any means, the cult-loved T-Shirt For Your Feet has certainly garnered significantly more attention than years passed. And speaking of attention, this next colorway for the silhouette demands it in both color and rarity. Yes, that’s right, the unicorn that is the 2001 Japan-exclusive CO.JP Nike Air Presto “Rainbow” returns, this time for a global rollout.

Suspected to be an early example of Nike’s now-prevalent “Bre True” philosophy, the rainbow gradients throughout serve as a direct nod to the LGBTQI+ community. Working from University gold at the toe, the neoprene upper fades and shifts to orange, pink, and purple towards the rear. The classic sunrise gradient is met by bright whites and light blues at the midsoles, lace cage, and laces that provided some mid-foot pop, while bright orange Swooshes at the midfoot remain true to the OG. Competing for the design is a flash of black and purple on the underfoot tread, orange Nike Air branding in the back, and a rainbow finish applied to the Nike Alpha Project’s 5 dot symbol.
