Nike Celebrate the 15-Year Anniversary of The Pistons’ ’04 Championship

Call this Franchise the Dam, because ain’t no Lakers getting through.

This June, Nike will be celebrating the Detroit Pistons’ 30 year anniversary of their 3-peat stopping sweep of the Lakers back in ’89 with an Air Force 1 Low — but they’ll also be reminiscing about the other time they trumped the tipped-favorite Lakers back in 2004.

It’s been 15 years since Big Ben Wallace, Chauncey Billups, Tayshaun Prince, and Rip Hamilton ripped the loaded Lakers apart in just 5 games. It would be the last time Shaq would appear as a Laker, and it would be another five years before Kobe landed another title. Like the celebratory Low, this pair also adorns a Pistons palate of Red, White, and Blue. It’s all-blue patent leather upper comes with architectural detailing on the Swoosh and heel panels, representative of the Palace of Auburn Hills exterior. it’s paired with white leather overlays, laces, liner, and midsole, with pops of red ushered in on the tongue and semi-translucent outsole. “’89” motifs arrive embroidered in gold on the lateral heel, along with matching debossed Nike Air heel branding, and the sneaker is completed with mismatched insoles, the left foot reading “Just Do It” in an NBA Finals-themes font, the Right shoe shouting out the D.

Update 05.18.19 A release date for the Nike Air Force 1 High “NBA Finals ’04” has been announced, with pairs to releasing alongside the previously-revealed ’04 celebratory High, to coincide with the 15th anniversary of The D’s 2004 Championship. Pairs will be available from Nike.com as well as select stores like Finish Line on June 15th, 2019.
