Previewed late last month as part of the Nike/Footlocker “Evolution of the Swoosh” collaborative pack, the “Sunburst” Nike Air Force 1 Low pays tribute to one of Nike’s earliest modifications of the Swoosh.

The Sunburst logo (commonly known as the “Pinwheel” design) was developed in 1972 while considering how to translate the asymmetry of a single Swoosh to apparel. The circular nature of the design allowed for club names to be arched over it — a regular conceit in collegiate and sportswear graphics of the era. Now it returns in vibrant fashion, featuring prominently on the side panels, tongues, insoles, and outsoles of this colorful Air Force 1

Featuring a tri-colored plush mesh base — red at the toes, white at the mid panel and green at the tongues — the pair comes overlayed with ultra buttery black leathers in the front end, and vivid yellow in the rear; colors consistent with the other offerings from the Sunburst Pack. Branding hits take on all new cues: the sides Swooshes arrive with both contrast stitching and vibrant red outlines, while tongue, heel, dubrae, and midsole AIR branding all arrive multi-colored. Pinwheel logos arrive on the lateral forefoot and insoles, with a crisp white midsole and black rubber outsole completing the design.

Look for the Nike Air Force 1 Low “Sunburst” to release alongside the accompanying Air Max 97, Air Max Plus and React Element 55 on FootLocker.com and Nike.com on August 31st in men’s sizes.
