The Air Max 90 NRG “Ridgerock” Arrives May 12

For over 40 years, Nike has been inspiring millions to get up and Just Do It, from the track to the streets, or even the mountainside. These days, the focus is predominately on the lifestyle market, but the Beaverton-based brand never forgets its roots. After the initial running boom, one of the early markets that showed significant growth for Nike was its ACG (All Conditions Gear) lineage, which housed a family of rugged outdoor footwear and apparel in atypical color palates. It was this juxtaposition that helped the sub-brand not only stand out, but flourish. These days, the landscape has changed, with footwear categories and crossovers converging at rapid rates. And while this Air Max 90 “Ridgerock” hasn’t been fully retooled for treacherous trials, it does pay tribute to the storied history of the cult-classic ACG line, all while capturing its own DNA in the process.

Served up in a mix of conflicting hues and materials, the pair is straight away an eye-catcher. From mixed mesh uppers of Turbo Green to earthy suede overlays in both the titular hue and rich maroon — not to mention the select pops of Saturn Gold – the pair is arguably one of the most intriguing we’ve seen in recent times. Add to that padded, ballistic mesh tongues fixed with retro branding, semi-translucent outsoles, and eroded rear brand panels, and you’ve got yourself one unique offering from the Swoosh.
