Right before Nikecloses the doors on the Air Max 90‘s 30th anniversary, the brand has one more surprise in store — a return of the OG Uk-exclusive Air Max 90 “Spruce Lime”

The colorway has never been made available outside of the original 1991 release — and of course the 2008 JD Sports exclusive — but now it appears that, for the first time, the OG will see its first global release. Though unlike other OG Air Max 90s this year, this won’t be a true one-for-one retro, with a handful of minor tweaks present to both piss off OG heads and to mark the release as its own unique offering.

OG Air Max III “Spruce Lime” (1991)

You can expect the 2021/21 pair to arrive in the same mix of mesh, smooth leather, suede, and nubuck, with its blocking almost identical to the original, save a few minor reworkings. Most noticeably, the color of the Air supports is switched from white to Hot Lime, while its black rubber outsole is swapped for the titular teal green hue. Judging by the official imagery below, it’s Hot Lime Swooshes arrive slightly brighter than the OG, while the Spruce green accents appear lighter in hue, too. Finally, insoles are void of OG branding, instead opting for Nike Worldwide insignia — it’s reasoning still unclear.

Despite all the minor tweaks, the return of the Air Max 90 “Spruce Lime” will be a welcome one — but as to when that will be? That remains a mystery. Official images appearing online today does suggest a proximal release, so hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long. In the meantime, take a look at the 2020-21 release here below, and be sure to keep our eyes glued to our official Twitter accountfor updates on its release.
