The very-first Air-encompassing sneaker deserves to be celebrated far more than it is. In a world full of collabs and hype and “I’ll only wear what La Flame’s wearing” — the classics are rarely spoken about. But special-editions like this upcoming “Fossil” Tailwind 79 does the retro silhouette some incredible justice that will — hopefully — get the next generation of sneakerheads to pay attention.
This edition of the classic low-riding silhouette sports a premium upgrade, refined construction, and an equally-elegant colorway. A base layer of clean canvas-like nylon rides the upper and exposed-foam tongues, before being overridden by premium tonal tumbled leathers at the toe, lacestays, heel, and fat-bellied Swoosh. Vintage Nike tongue tags remain prominent on the tongues, while the rear’s OG block lettering has been replaced by an embroidered version of the tongue’s cursive motif. The same logo appears again on the insoles, and the pair is complete with a time-tested white midsole/black rubber outsole combo.
