Homage.
The Air Max 95’s OG “Neon” color scheme has served as a tribute to Sergio Lozano’s Air Max masterpiece for years, gracing a handful of Swoosh silhouettes over the years. But recently, we’ve seen a flurry of 95-inspired takes on other Air Max classics, including the Air Max Uptempo 95, Air Max2 Light, and the impending Air Jordan 4 for Air Max Day 2020. Next to join the party is Nike’s VaporMax 2019, which sports the same makeup of greys, blacks and volt accents as it’s 24-year-old predecessor.
Not built to showcase gradients like the Air Max 95, the VaporMax 2019 opts for its standard blocking, but pays tributes in other ways. Aside from the instantly recognizable color palate, this “Neon” VpaorMax 2019 adds a gradient effect to the neon lace cage, a nod to the OG’s multi-layered effect, as weel as Air Max 95-inspired insole detail that now reads “VaporMax.”
