As one of the most prolific storytellers in footwear, Boston-based Concepts has delivered some of the most impressive sneaker collaborations of our time. With Deon Point at the helm, the imprint has released everything from ancient Egypt efforts for Kyrie Irving to their famous series of Lobster Dunks. Their next effort — this Concepts x Reebok Question Mid “Draft Class” — pays a tribute to arguably the greatest NBA Draft in history, and they’re producing it atop a shoe that belonged to that year’s number one pick.
Amongst a sea of color and print, you’ll find a striking aqua and gold ’96 badging at the heel — an ostensible nod to a later issue of Slam Magazine’s coverage of the class. But you don’t need that confirmation to know what’s going on up top if you remember this photo:
The 41996 NBA Draft Class
Yes, Deon Point and co. have enlisted the colors (and prints) of the featured strips, including Marcu Camby’s pinstripes, Stephon Marbury’s T-Wolves trees, and Kobe’s Purple and Gold on the medial side. On the flip side, you’ll see Steve Nash’s gradient Suns, Ray Allen’s Bucks, and both the Celtics and Knicks (Walker and Wallace) showcased, too. Then, there’s AI himself — who wasn’t pictured, mind you — coming through with blue tongues and red suede toes, along with a slew of metallic gold embroidery detail completing the collage. You’ll find co-branded heels and outsoles, and special graphic insoles completing the design — and it will likely come housed in special-edition boxing, though images were not available.
