One could argue that there are a lot of things missing from the current sneaker landscape and it seems that New York City-based imprint 3sixteen believes playfulness is one of them.
Recently, the boutique founded in 2003 by Andrew Chen and Johan Lam previewed its latest collaboration with Saucony Originals. Two pairs from the Guide series were showcased in a 1980s-inspired infomercial starring John Itiola—also known as Wordsplayed. The spot sees the recording artist explaining the benefits of 3sixteen's next footwear collaboration in a serious manner that can only be taken lightly given his mannerisms and ill-fitting wig.
Specifics about the project are still under wraps, but the impending Saucony Originals collab is being touted as "The Future of Feet." While hyperbolic, the tagline speaks to how innovative the Guide 7 (and other Saucony running models for that matter) was when it debuted in 2013.
The ProGrid Guide 7 will be an important retro style from the heritage brand throughout the next 18 months.
Stay tuned for firm launch details of 3sixteen's sneaker duo.
