Metagirl's Ornate Saucony Paramount "Daughter of the Moon" Releases Soon
Caterina Mongillo—best known across the globe as the force behind Metagirl Studios—is set to release her debut collaboration with Saucony soon. The project unearths the ProGrid Paramount running shoe from 2009 and boasts a "Daughter of the Moon" makeover.
In her own words, Mongillo's first linkup with the heritage sports brand "[draws] upon ancient lore [that says:] where a pearl is born of the earth’s waters and the heaven’s powers, struck by a flash of moon light. She is considered to be the daughter of the moon."
Akin to releases from Jae Tips and Minted New York, the latest collab from Saucony Originals dons an eye-catching color palette across its retro performance design. Porous mesh bases work in-tandem with synthetic panels and a chunky sole unit for a nostalgic aesthetic that still feels future-forward. Metagirl's touches arrive in the form of shimmering elements on and around the tongue, as well as throughout the profiles. Additionally, sizable pearls appear on either side of the collar and on the spine. The latter area sees the first-ever 3D-printed shell heel counter on a Saucony footwear project. Mongillo hand-molded the attachment, which was later scanned, rendered digitally, 3D-printed, and attached to the 16-year-old silhouette.
The purple-heavy ProGrid Paramount arrives in a custom shoe box featuring "Daughter of the Moon" messaging and co-branding from the burgeoning partnership. Packaging opts for a shiny silver finish similar to what's found on the sneaker.
Enjoy a closer-look at Metagirl's debut Saucony collab ahead. According to Mongillo, the project is "coming next week." Pairs could arrive via Metagirl Studio's channels and Saucony.com on Thursday, Aug. 28. Stay tuned for firm details.
