It's not often that Vans has a footwear project that makes the rounds across the internet months before its release, but that's exactly what's been happening with the Old Skool 36 "Souvenir" duo.

Spearheaded by Greg Betty, the design falls under the OTW by Vans line, an elevated, more experimental fraction of the storied action sports brand. Its build and aesthetic is unquestionably rooted in skateboarding, but the "Souvenir" makeovers draw inspiration from high-fashion—specifically Chanel's Graffiti Messenger Bag from 2014's "On the Pavement" collection.

Covered in the type of scribbling and hand-drawings you might find on a random city wall throughout the 1970s, the large messenger bag has become a coveted collector's item over the last few years. The Old Skool 36 faithfully recreates the bag's overall look, but features jazz stripes and pins that root the project in Vans heritage. Spray paint-reminiscent detailing appears arounf the front-half of the upper, while skid marks take on much of the sneaker's midsole. Leather lining and lace guards further differentiate the OTW release from mainline Vans projects.

Enjoy detailed shots of the "Souvenir" Old Skool 36 styles (in brown and burgundy) inspired by Chanel ahead. Pairs have begun rolling out via select shops as early as July 31. Follow-up launches are scheduled to take place in early August, while the second burgundy pair is expected via Vans.com in September.
