The New adidas Y-3 ITOGO is Made From Only Five Components
Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto have unveiled the first footwear offering from their experimental new line, Y-3 Atelier, the Y-3 ITOGO.
Showcasing a fearless approach to contemporary footwear, the new model features only five components, each highlighted on the shoe by number. These components include elastic straps, a knitted upper, a Boost midsole, a rubber cupsole, and thread.
The Y-3 ITOGO is designed as a provocation to rethink the lifecycle of footwear, and it forgoes the use of glue in its assembly process. Instead, each component is assembled using a hand-stitched process, resulting in a silhouette that can be fully dismantled if the owner decides to cut the threads.
The Y-3 ITOGO moniker is derived from the Japanese word for “Thread” – “Ito” – and “Five” – “Go” – a nod to the innovative assembly of the shoe. With a focus on craftsmanship, skill, and undeterred dedication, Y-3 Atelier continues pushing contemporary footwear’s boundaries.
Arriving on March 13th in black, and March 16th in off-white, the Y-3 ITOGO will be available from adidas.com/y-3, on CONFIRMED, in-store, and through select retailers for $600.
