The Adidas Samba will forever be linked to the game of football. From its earliest days as a mid-top silhouette built for play on icy fields to its importance to the modern blokecore trend, the design cannot be separated from "the beautiful game." Recently, the low-profile model has emerged in a series of makeovers dedicated to football clubs sponsored by the Three Stripes. An impending duo dedicated to Argentina's Boca Juniors and River Plate nod to one of the sport's long-standing rivalries.
Even if you've never watched a single match of the Primera División de Argentina, it's likely you're familiar with the friction between both Argentine sides. Even before the days of Diego Maradona, Boca and River's face-offs on-the-pitch—and their fans' off-it—were the stuff of legend. Each club, founded in La Boca neighborhood of Buenos Aires, battled it out for more than just three points on the table—their matches represented an inherited division that informs local life, for better or worse.
Although the blue-and-yellow-clad Boca currently holds the better record in the Superclásico (92 wins in 264 official matches), its white, red, and black-outfitted rival is also getting its own Adidas Original footwear style. Both offerings indulge in a straightforward design that sees club colors animate profile 3-Stripes, laces, and Achilles' heel sections. Each pair's most defining feature, however, arrives on top-of-the-tongue, promoting its respective Argentine team's beloved crests proudly.
Enjoy official photos of Boca and River's Sambas ahead. Pairs should become available via Adidas.com for $115 soon.
