From 1979 to 1991, Lakers basketball was at its peak. Often referred to as the “Showtime” era, the purple and gold were led to five championships by Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, all whilst the biggest names in Hollywood watched on from the sidelines. But it wasn’t just all silverware, with the glitz and glamor making its way to the off-court outfits, including Magic’s famous oversized fur sweater. It’s this era in which this new adidas Forum Low appears to take inspiration, as the Three Stripes look to dress their iconic hoops silhouette in franchise colors, along with little accents that truly capture the period.
Centered around sail leathers and neutral suede, the pair is peppered with purple and gold accents in typical placements, including the heel clip, liners, and laces. Pops of gold at the lateral Trefoil motif harkens back to the five Championships won during the era, while leopard print Three Stripe panels remember the era of affluence and those sitting courtside. The pair is then completed by a time-tested sail and gum sole unit.
